Love is in the Air: November Means Mating Season for Bridge Trolls!
The nesting pair of bridge trolls under the Endale Arch, at the north end of the Great Meadow near Grand Army Plaza, have blocked off their tunnel to keep out intruders and protect their young.
"Trolls, particularly bridge trolls, are very private creatures," said Prospect Park Vice-Director of Mythozoology Samantha Flumenthal. "When the cold months come—their preferred mating time—they'll use whatever is available to blockade their tunnel."
In this case, they dragged a Park Sanitation Department sea-container into the entrance.
The Prospect Park Alliance has rented fencing to provide an additional layer of security. Flumenthal says that she certainly understands the temptation to catch a glimpse of a baby bridge troll. "They're known for their cuteness," she added, "and their huge eyes. But the safest plan is to stay clear until the trolls are ready to show off their young themselves."
